Brief Introduction to the college
Yunnan College of Business Management, formally known as Yunnan School of Business Management, was established in 1992. As a recognized full-time comprehensive college by the Yunnan Provincial Government, it has the right to award the qualification of national diploma to its graduating students.
Yunnan College of Business Management’s 788 mu estate is divided into two campuses: Haiyuan and Anning. Haiyuan campus, which is located in Kunming, has a land area of 268 mu. Anning campus is larger with a land area of 520 mu including 0.6 million square meters' building area and upon completion of the second phase will be able to accommodate 28,000 students. Both campuses have superbly-appointed teaching and living facilities. The college currently has 16,500 students and a combined staff of 800 teachers and workers. Total fixed assets amount to approximately 0.8 billion RMB. Teaching equipment purchased to date is valued at 36 million RMB and the college has a comprehensive library of 800,000 volumes. There are also over 10 foreign teachers offering students an excellent environment for learning foreign languages.
Based in Yunnan Province, the college is open to the rest of China as well as being orientated internationally, all of which contribute to the socio-economical development of the region. Courses are focused on economics and management, but at the same time a comprehensive curriculum of engineering, art and science is maintained. The college’s main aim is to provide full-time higher vocational courses and expand upon higher learning, community education and overseas student exchange. The college consists of Accounting and Finance Department, Economics Department, Management Department, Architectural Engineering Department, Computer and Arts Media Department, Foreign Languages Department, International Network and Broadcasting School, Technician School, etc., offering a total of 40 different majors in economics, management, engineering, art, science and law.
In the 19-year practice of running school, the college has consistently adhered to its core values of cultivating talented individuals, placing emphasis on their central role in the teaching process as the student-centered learning theory. By constantly improving the quality of teaching, a love of learning, hard work and perseverance can be instilled, enabling every student to realize their potential and contribute to the future of the country. Establish and practise the developing road of "operated by experts, stood by quality, strengthened by features and developed by employment rate". It has grown up to be a college with the largest scare, reasonable major setting, higher standard for running a school, leading teaching quality, strong comprehensive strength and clear teaching characteristics in Yunnan province, even in China.
Centered on teaching quality and guided by social demand, the college aims to cultivate moral, highly professional graduates that are ready to excel in their chosen occupation. YCBM’s quality of teaching is ranked very highly among vocational colleges. In 2010, 6 quality factors including teaching faculty, specialist courses, curriculum, 12th five year plan, personnel training and quality of teaching were introduced to evaluate vocational colleges at a provincial level. Of all the colleges evaluated under these quality factors, YCBM was listed as a provincial construction project. And the only one to become the "Provincial Model Higher Vocational Institution". YCBM is constantly seeking to improve faculty personnel while maintaining the perfect balance between its academic staff and those with occupational experience. Funding has also been directed into practical training, with over 50 practical training rooms being established on campus. It is also worth mentioning that YCBM is the first college in the province to set up “Vocational Education Group”, an effective platform for students to gain practical experience through one of over 200 associated businesses. Along with improving teaching quality, this program has received social recognition and is highly regarded. In 2010, YCBM won numerous honors in various contests and competitions, including 15 national level awards and over 30 provincial level awards.
In recent years, the rapid growth in students' enrollment has been increasing year by year. YCBM now boasts a graduate employment rate of over 95% which has earned the college many awards from Yunnan’s Department of Education. To date, the college has produced over 20,000 graduates, most of whom have become key members within their respective industries. This represents a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of not only Yunnan but the entire country.
YCBM teaching faculty and administration work together to achieve the college’s goals of cultivating talent, management and services. “All for the students, for all of the students”. After many years of development, the college has formed a counselor (head teacher) team with a strong political consciousness, professional attitude, strict disciplines and fine work ethic, which guides students positively through their study, personal life and career development. The Youth League Committee and Student Union provide the core of the cultural activities on campus but the college has also helped to establish over 50 other student associations where students can freely express their individuality and talent. Personal growth creates an atmosphere of teamwork, safety and stability and contributes to the harmony of campus life.
Through cooperation with Yunnan University of Finance and Economics, Shenzhen Polytechnic, Ezhou Polytechnic, etc., the college has realized far-ranging and productive collaborations in such fields as teacher training, student exchange, teaching and academic research, which has boosted its academic profile. The college also stresses the importance of higher education and has cooperative programs with South Nanlarkshire College of Britain, Konyang University, Auckland Institute of Studies, Arbutus College, Dong-A University, Rajamangala University of Technology, Burapha University, Rangsit University, along with 12 other universities, offering students opportunities to broaden their horizon and continue their studies.
When confronted with new situations, challenges or tasks, all members of YCBM will unite under a common goal to develop a new philosophy of education and advanced education model. This is in the never-ending effort to provide socio-economic development through the introduction of talented graduates not only locally but regionally.
